The process begins by creating a detailed wax model, which is then coated with a heat-resistant material like clay or plaster to form the mold.
When the mold is heated, the wax melts away (hence the name "lost wax"), leaving a hollow space that is then filled with molten metal, like bronze. Once cooled, the mold is broken, revealing a one-of-a-kind piece that captures every intricate detail of the original model.
At its core, the lost wax technique is a fusion of art and science, blending the creativity of an artist with the precision of a technician to craft extraordinary, detailed sculptures.
